another - don’t like this one so much but i saw a poster that had a frosted window with a negative image in it and thought it looked pretty sick.
here are five images for the last one. i decided to switch it up and try a different approach. hopefully the image thing on tumblr allows y’all to see each one clearly… let’s find out.
second book cover (just the cover) - neil gaiman’s good omens, a book he did with terry pratchett. it’s about an angel and a demon who have been stationed on earth for six thousand years and pretty much become best friends after thousands of years of rivalry. the point of them being on earth is to deal with the antichrist (the demon to look after the birth/upbringing, the angel to stop it) except… there’s a little mix up at the hospital and the antichrist is lost. the book covers the frantic days before armaggedon with both sides trying to figure out what the hell is going on, where the antichrist is, and what their respective leaders will do once they see that things aren’t going to plan. really funny book. the back gray will act as another spot where i wanna do the shiny see through ink. perhaps.
first round of book covers. haven’t had enough time to think about colors yet, and i’ve only tried six fonts. but i think i’m going to stay with this concept. interworld’s one of those teen books that you read and you’re like ah man this is just awesome and i’m clearly still just a boy who dreams about awesome things like this. basically, this kid joey stumbles upon a parallel universe, which causes all sorts of mayhem - eventually landing him in interworld, the space inbetween all the parallel universes, where every version of him from each universe is gathering together to train for war. inter-dimensional war between magic and science. how effing cool is that?
in any case, that explains the presence of the mustache yet again. the joey copies were either really slight (different personality) to an entirely different race (even a robot joey. a robot joey!) and thus the cover. i kind of want to do one layer as that translucent embossed stuff, forgot what it was called… again. but if i saw this, i’d be like, shit, i wonder what this is all about.
no joke. yeah?
in class, which is going on right now, we’re talking about how my stuff is like saul bass. a lot like saul bass. and gen warned what happens when your work is a little too much like saul bass. on the left hand side is the poster for spike lee’s clockers, which looks quite similar to saul bass’ anatomy of a murder poster created decades beforehand. on the far right is a variant to the poster… i imagine after spike lee got in all that trouble, he had to pull the first one and had this one created in its place.
slight modification to the logo.. yutt mentioned that the legs were boxy and the guitar all nice and smooth so i tried to box-ify the guitar without making it look like a spear. again.
packaging design, version 2.2 - circular design. won’t be able to get to the trapezoid design but that was a stupid packaging shape anyway. for guitar pedals, at least. i’ll have the full layout in class today. i think.
an updated version of the jump logo, a little cleaner, still needs some more polish. i’ll focus on that for this upcoming week. here’s the bw and colored version.
working with a new color scheme and a couple other tweaks - decided to name this wah-wah pedal “vertigo” because of the dizzying wah effect it would create… if it was real. the colors reflect suffering from vertigo and falling on the floor to see the sky and the clouds.
still stuck in the concept phase of the branding project. i settled on “jump” for the company name, and now i need to apply the concept of guitar accessories to the logo - or at least to get the feeling of electricity and - yes, once more around - fun.
i really want to do something like the top image, maybe flesh it out completely so it looks a little more sophisticated and photorealistic. which is, as you can imagine, a lot tougher than it sounds. the bottom right is the second idea i was playing around with, with a guitar cable snaking around the letters, as in jumpstarting the life into your guitar.
so i drafted up a few names that i’m going to experiment with and obviously shorten down to one final choice. so here are some options:
at this point i’m leaning towards Jump or Jumps because i can envision a concept behind it, but i’m still going to be experimenting with the rest to make sure i don’t get forced into a single idea.
second design, using a circular model.
package design one, product number two.
first packaging redesign for the line6 dl4 delay modeler. this sort of looks like a wifi product but that’s supposed to be the echo. produced… by the delay.
